Another night of relative calm, clear, navigable air space with just a hint of a southerly tail wind — even in late February, birds are headed north. Looking at last night’s radar around 3:15 UTC (7:15 PM PST) we see a, maybe the first?, green return, possibly up to 20 dBZ, arising out of north central Marion County and making a line toward Mount Hood through eastern Clackamas County. Very, very curious.
Low level intensity but widespread movement in last night’s clear skies. Light winds out of the south probably helped a bit too.
In the Portland Area Turkey Vultures have been reported as well as the early Tree Swallows. And now, from Borego Springs: “Swainson’s Hawks are beginning to migrate into Borrego Springs”.
It won’t be long before they start leaving significant radar ping images.
Damn, i love this time of the year.
